When It Comes to Chocolate, Chicago Has It Covered
Posted by Ted Guarnero on Feb 9, 2011 | 0 commentsLooking for a different way to celebrate Valentine’s Day? Instead of a night on the town, indulge in a romantic walk on the town. Visits to the city’s premier chocolate shops and dessert emporiums will take you through Chicago’s beautiful luxury real estate neighborhoods.
Gold Coast and Streeterville
Starting at 900 N. Michigan Avenue, visit Teuscher Chocolates of Switzerland, a 70-year-old company known for European-style chocolates with no artificial ingredients. Their special heart-shaped boxes for Valentine’s Day are impressive.
For a taste of chocolate San Francisco-style, splurge on a Ghiradelli old-fashioned hot fudge sundae at Michigan and Pearson.
Walk south along Mag Mile to the Vosges Boutique in the North Bridge Mall. Their many varieties of truffles feature unusual spicy and savory flavorings.
Now head east on Illinois into the heart of Streeterville to the Fox & Obel Food Market. Not just gourmet chocolates from around the world, but gourmet everything!
The Loop and South Loop
In the Loop, start on the lower level of Macy’s for the best candy department in the city. You’ll find Chicago’s very own Frango brand plus many other premier brands of chocolate. The challenge is choosing from so many options.
Next stop is a few blocks south. That’s a good thing, because you’ll want to work up an appetite before entering the Little Branch Café at 1251 S. Prairie Avenue for delicious chocolate cupcakes.
Be sure to save some room for Italian chocolates and other goodies at Panozzo’s at 1313 S. Michigan.
We found Chicago’s best addresses for chocolate on the Chicago Chocolate Tours website. They’re offering a special chocolate and champagne tour in honor of Valentine’s Day. http://www.chicagochocolatetours.com
Whether you lead your own chocolate tour or participate in a guided tour, between decadent bites of chocolate you’ll see some of Chicago’s most attractive downtown real estate properties.
