Chicago’s West Loop
The West Loop is a trendy Chicago neighborhood. Previously a predominantly industrial part of town, Chicago’s West Loop has transformed over the past couple of decades into a highly desirable residential area. Filled with loft conversions in old warehouses and factories, the West Loop is urban and edgy. With the flux of residential dwellings, many restaurants, clubs and lounges have popped up, making the West Loop one of the hottest places in town for dining and nightlife.
West Randolph Street could be dubbed Restaurant Row. Lined with upscale restaurants, West Randolph draws people from far and wide. Marche, which offers contemporary French fare in a bright, carnival-esque atmosphere, is an old-time favorite. Blackbird and Avec are both five star restaurants that have gained much acclaim. Al Hambra Palace is akin to a Middle Eastern Palace in appearance and is a lively place to dine, dance and listen to live music. Countless other restaurants of an endless variety can be found on West Randolph so, whatever your palate desires, it’s sure to be satisfied. Greektown is another section of the West Loop which is teeming with action. Authentic Greek restaurants like Athena, Greek Island and Pegasus have withstood the test of time and all serve up tasty ethnic fare.
Numerous art galleries make the West Loop a destination for art collectors and art gazers alike. The Taste of Randolph is a an annual street festival held every June. The Taste of Randolph features live music and lots of food to try from the neighborhood restaurants. For a recurring event, try First Wednesdays. Held at Just Grapes, First Wednesdays is a popular, themed monthly tasting, with experts on hand for questions. The event features about 35 wines and food. The West Loop is a great destination whether or not there is an event being hosted. Publican, Lumen, Theatro, Victor Hotel and Fulton Lounge are all uber-hip lounges that attract a very stylish crowd.
